Delamag Hydro – Active zero halogen flame retardants

Delamag Hydro is a natural magnesium hydroxide, manufactured for use as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant.

Delamag Hydro, when exposed to heat, decomposes endothermically, liberating water. This decomposition mechanism absorbs heat, delays ignition and retards burning. The release of water vapour dilutes the flammable gases evolved during burning and acts as a barrier to oxygen diffusion, which is necessary to support combustion.

The formation of Magnesium Oxide acts as a ceramic shield to further inhibit burning.

Mg (OH)2 > MgO + H2O

The decomposition of Delamag Hydro begins at 320°C. This higher degree of thermal stability allows Delamag Hydro's incorporation into a wide range of polymer applications.

This Magnesia based product also has excellent smoke suppression properties.
